Description
VICRYL Suture is a lactide and glycolide copolymer-coated synthetic absorbable suture containing calcium stearate. It can be used to approximate and/or ligate soft tissues in general, including ocular procedures, but not cardiovascular or neurological tissues. Vicryl sutures were used to close thoracotomies and sew the small and large intestine, peritoneum, fascia, muscle, subcutaneous tissue, and skin. In tissue, the suture retains its tensile strength for two to three weeks before being fully dissolved by acid hydrolysis after 56 to 70 days.

- The Coated Vicryl Suture is for soft tissue approximation and/or ligation in general, including ocular procedures, but not for cardiovascular or neurological tissues.
- The Coated Vicryl Suture is a synthetic absorbable sterile surgical suture made up of a 90 percent glycolide and 10% L-lactide copolymer.
- Hydrolysis causes a gradual loss of tensile strength and eventual absorption of Coated Vicryl Suture. The decrease of tensile strength is the first sign of absorption, followed by a loss of mass.
